Founding Principal of the Firm

Gordon C. Morehouse, CPA

Gordon is a native of North Georgia who received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. After his service in the military, he entered public accounting in 1969, and to this date has devoted 48 years of service in the field.  He eventually became the Founding Principal of what is now Morehouse Group, P.C., and currently practices in the Firm.

His professional and civic responsibilities include being a member of Georgia Society of CPAs, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Cherokee Area Estate Planning Council, and an initial trustee of the Georgia Federal Tax Conference.   He was honored as “Toast of the Town” in 2010 by the Family Support Council.  As a Rotarian, Gordon has served as president and received the “W. Lee Arrendale Award for Vocational Excellence, as well as the “Guardian of Ethics Award”.  He has also been recognized by the American Women’s Business Association with the Professional Development Award.  In 2010, Gordon was elected and served as Whitfield County Commissioner through 2014. In 2017, he was nominated as one of the laureates for the Junior Achievement of Northwest Georgia Business Hall of Fame.

Mr. Morehouse is an ordained deacon and long-time member of First Baptist Church of Dalton where he has served in many capacities, the closest to his heart being the nursery and toddler rooms. He and his wife Dianne have three children, Dave, Dan, and Debbie, seven grandchildren, and reside in Dalton, Georgia.

Principals of the Firm

Penny H. Carpenter, CPA

Penny has a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of Georgia. She became associated with the Firm in 1980 and became a principal in 1987.  Her professional and civic responsibilities include being a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, board member of Chatsworth-Murray Chamber of Commerce, Murray County Family Connections, and Murray County Community Christmas.  She is a past president of the American Business Women's Association, and received the American Business Women's Association “Woman of the Year” award in 1991 and the “Professional Development” award in 1994.  She received the Northwest Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs “Member of the Year” for 1994-95, the Chatsworth-Murray Chamber of Commerce "Humanitarian" award in 2010, and the Boys & Girls Club of Gordon, Murray and Whitfield Counties "Youth Service" award in 2013.  

Penny and her husband reside in Crandall, Georgia. She and her husband, Marc, jointly received the Whitfield-Murray Historical Society "Preservation" award in 2011.   

 

Jerry T. Watkins, Jr., CPA


Jerry has a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from University of West Georgia (formally West Georgia College). He became associated with the firm in 1984 and became a principal in 1997.  His professional and civic responsibilities include being a member American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and United Way of Northwest Georgia, board member of the Hamilton Healthcare Foundation, and a former Rotarian. He is a graduate of Leadership Dalton-Whitfield.  Jerry is past president of The Exchange Club of Dalton and the Northwest Chapter of the Georgia Society of CPAs, and he was awarded “Chapter President of the Year” in 1995.  Jerry is a member of Fellowship Bible Church and is involved with many of its committees and programs.  Jerry and his wife, Angela, have four children and reside in Tunnel Hill, Georgia.

 

Karen A. Clement, CPA

Karen has a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from University of West Georgia (formally West Georgia College).  She became associated with the firm in 1994 and became a principal in 2005. Her professional and civic responsibilities include being a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of CPAs, where she was the Northwest Georgia Chapter “Member of the Year” for 1997-1998.  Karen is a past director and/or treasurer of several non-profit and civic organizations, including chairman of finance for United Way of Northwest Georgia.  She is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Dalton-Whitfield and the Advanced Leadership Academy.  She currently serves as member liaisons for The DEO Clinic and the Westside PTO, as well as, a trustee of the First Foundation.  She also serves as a finance committee member of First Baptist Church of Dalton, where she is involved in several programs and teams. She is an active member of the Dalton/Whitfield Community Band, the L'Abri Symphony Orchestra, and the First Baptist Church of Dalton Orchestra.  Karen and her husband, Chris, have two daughters and reside in Rocky Face, Georgia.

   

 

Mark C. Krueger, CPA

Mark has a degree in Business Administration with a major in both Finance and Accounting from the University of Georgia in 1986. He has over thirty years of experience in public accounting practice which includes practicing with three different public accounting firms in Atlanta, Marietta, and Dalton, Georgia.  His practice focus includes management advisory services, attestation and tax engagements. His management advisory services include cash management and cash flow advisory services, various special projects incorporating agreed upon procedures and internal control evaluation.  He became associated with the Morehouse Group in 1996 and became a principal in the firm in 2005.  His professional and civic responsibilities include being a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of CPAs.  He served in the Leadership Dalton-Whitfield Class of 2005 and the leadership class of Northwest Georgia in 2017.  Mark currently serves as board member and treasurer of the Dalton/Whitfield County Chamber of Commerce,  and Secretary/Treasurer of the Northwest Georgia Center for Independent Living based in Rome, Georgia.  Mark also serves as a deacon and in the greeter ministry at West Rome Baptist Church located in Rome, Georgia.  Mark and his wife, Jeanne, have two children and reside in Rome, Georgia since 1996.

 

Amanda G. Todd, CPA

Amanda has a degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Kennesaw State University. She became associated with the firm in 2002 and became a principal in 2014.  Her professional and civic responsibilities include being a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of CPAs.  She served in the Leadership Dalton-Whitfield Class of 2008.  Amanda has served on various committees for United Way of Northwest Georgia.  She has also served as a Junior Achievement and Project Success mentor.   She is a member of Rockbridge Community Church and serves in the children’s ministry.  Amanda and her husband, David, have two children and reside in Calhoun, Georgia.
